Every Home A Big Mac And No One Goes Out Back That's That

It was just on T.V. before. It would be a sin not to honour Peter Garrett's immaculate dance moves, and i'm really really serious.

Get Schoolly'D

"Oh shit.... I hate gravity"

Remember that gay movie SWAT with Samuel L Jackson and LL Cool J like 5 years ago? You might know it was based on the 70's cop show (a la Starsky & Hutch). You probably didn't know the theme song was rapped over by Schoolly D, one of the first rappers to embrace an antisocial persona without explicit irony (he doesn't joke [just like Chromeo don't when they use brackets in song titles]).

9R399 80NU5:
Dirty DX7-driven remix from a fellow Wall of Sound labelmate (and master of pseudo-French disguise*).

*Shotgun writing my next post on him (and all of his 10 guises[yes even 'Man With Guitar']).

Listen and Understand.

I could sit here and type a whole bunch of stuff about this guy; but nah, someone is knocking at my door....... It could be lady fame. It could just be Mrs Pellam again. The point is you just never know - do you. Or do you really never know?

EDIT?:

Japan. The place reeks of the future. Neon skyscapes, infinite vending machines, fruits, sleeping pods, pocket-cups, not to mention the headquarters of Roland, Korg, Yamaha, Akai, and Casio. I guarentee, in an underground factory somewhere in Tokyo a hoverboard is being ridden right now. For all we know the all spark is buried somwhere under three football fields thick of Tokyo concrete and has been powering their economy for the last 60 years.

In 1978 YMO exhibit/ed the future. They didn't fuck around trying to be meaningful or profound. They played gross long keyboards, made music and got damn famous for it. I am a massive fan. Here is something you definetly don't know. Behind the scenes, avoiding the glamour, galloped a dark horse. Hideki Matsutake was, as some have labelled him "the Genius behind the genius of YMO." Fluent in schematics and with a patching arm like Charles Bishop Weyland he was the sound engineer who created the sonic edge that pushed YMO into the same groundbreaking category as Kraftwerk. With a travelling synthesiser rig that could probably have served well as the mission control set in Apollo 13 he was by my standards, le man.

If you don't believe me, ask Isao Tomita - his trainer and master, karatekid-style.

He was and still is, a busy man. But as all good men do, he had a solo project, primarly a showboat on which could sail his absurdly deep prgramming knowledge, he released a few albums, one of which i am in possession of. Calling himself Logic System - a direct reference to the nickname he was given on the road, his first album, titled, 'Logic' (1981) is debuted in truncated form on STAIII for your aural pleasure.

Crash

Heavy Piece Of Literature

Re: Daniel Miller post, i had a 4 hour break in uni today so i got J.G. Ballard's novel Crash out from the library and read it. It's so gnarly. Read the last three chapters with this song on repeat.

Daniel Miller

Warm Leatherette

As the founder of Mute records, signing pretty much any act that Vince Clark has been a part of (most famously Depeche Mode) as well as artists like Nick Cave and Fad Gadget. Lesser known are Daniel Miller's own sonic works. He originally created Mute as an outlet for his own personal recordings, the first release being his dark 7" single Warm Leatherette.

The lyrics drew heavily upon J.G. Ballard's 1973 novel Crash, a bizzare account of car crash sexual fetishism, and since it's release in 1978, it's become somewhat of a landmark song in the world of synth, and no doubt you've heard Grace Jones cover on the retro countdowns that plague the airwaves. You can find the original on limewire or something though i'm not wasting bandwith posting it. But i have a mash of it with Raffi's Bananaphone if anyone wants it, ask.

What is really important about Daniel Miller, and also what people often fail to even notice, is Daniel Miller's lighter side. In 1980 he released Music For Parties, under the psueodonym of the Silicon Teens, their "real" names being Darryl, Jacki, Paul and Diane. Actors were used in videos and television appearances to give the act some pop accesibility, the album itself being predominantly synthetic pop covers of well known 1950's and early 60's rock 'n' roll tracks.

As far as im concered its so sick.

P.S. I heard Frank Tovey was on vocals. Someone leave a comment to confirm.

The Human League

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Probably not the last you'll hear from HL on this blog, but its the first.
They formed in 1977, got pretty famous in the 80's playing good key's, notably a Roland System 100. They were friends with Giorgio "Moustache" Moroder (he'll come up later for those hungry for mpTrois) and they named themselves after a part in a video game, Starforce: Alpha Centauri. (Alpha Centauri being the lowest point in our radiant Southern Cross).

Take these tracks, covering varying degrees of the League, including a cover of the Get Carter theme played on a Casio VL Tone.

Pre 'Le Borse' there was "Oh Odessa (Cluster Curiosum)", a 1981 track by krautrock band Cluster. Led by Hans Joachim Roedelius, and occaisonally collaborating with such artists as Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno, and Can bassist Holger Czukay, Cluster helped define early experimental synthetic music.

Australiana

The most Australian of all traditions is driving up the coast for the yearly family holiday. Dad would chuck on a John Williamson tape from the glovebox and we'd sing it all the way to Ballina, stopping off at Bulahdelah for breakfast.

Here: five brand new tracks recorded by a friend of mine who was in the audience at a hot chippy show in the states about 2 weeks ago. Quality is shit but it conjours good memories of seeing them live - not to mention a taste of what is to come from the eccentric nerds. WARNING - only for dedicated groupies/admirers.
